 n 2009, Terre des Hommes Italy has pursued an emergency project lasting 5 months financed by the Italian Cooperation (Ministry of Foreign Affairs) in the Gaza Strip, which supported the 4 clinics in the Palestinian Medical Relief Society (PMRS) damaged by Israeli incursions in January.

   he project has enabled the purchase of an ambulance and a mobile clinic, the supply of medicines and equipment for clinical laboratories, the payment of salaries of the staff responsible for health and medical programs aimed at women and children pay the carriage and ex post monitoring of 80 selected patients who needed specialized care outside the Strip. Morover, first aid kit have also been distributed. Direct beneficiaries were over 100,000 people, among which 1,000 infants and 5,000 women, people in Umm en-Nasser, Jabal, and Abu Izbat Beit Hanoun Ta'ima.

       s part of this project has been possible to verify the extent to which poverty affects the nutritional status of children. During the visits included in the individual program of pediatric growth monitoring of children 0 to 5 years, carried out in clinics and Umm Nasser Abu Taema show that about 30% of children in that age group is anemic and 8% is malnourished, especially the females.

        ore and more obstacles to the mobility of the Palestinian civilian population, and this has a direct reflection on the possibility of access to appropriate care of persons with disabilities.

The intervention of Terre des Hommes Italy was born to guarantee this right.

   hanks to funding from the European Commission, the project offer physical rehabilitation services and medical care for about 3,000 disabled people, especially children and their families and neighborhoods in the town of Yatta. After a first visit specialist physicians indicate the best treatment for individual cases: physical therapy, speech therapy, etc.. Which are provided free of charge.

       oreover, the Yatta Deaf School for the deaf children has been renovated and stocked with equipment, while the teachers were able to attend a refresher course. An important part of the project is the prevention of disabilities and promoting integration of disabled people in their communities.
